Seacoast Life Is Pricier Than Ever—But Every Kid Deserves a Chance To Play

Though often viewed as one of New Hampshire’s more affluent regions, the Seacoast faces serious financial pressures that put many kids at risk of missing out on the developmental and social benefits of out-of-school activities. In 2024, a two‑parent family with one child in Rockingham County needed $105,006 to cover basic living expenses. Even with some of the state’s lowest levels of poverty, over 15,000 families in Rockingham County live in poverty. Quality out-of-school activities are critical for kids to develop skills and feel included among their peers. The cost of living doesn’t include registration, equipment, and transportation to sporting events, dance recitals, summer camps, and all the other activities that are so important for all kids’ physical, emotional, and mental health.

The Critical Role of Financial Support

The KEY Collective exists to bridge this gap—ensuring that no kid misses out on an activity they want to try due to cost barriers. By providing easy access to scholarships and discounts through the #areuin? card program we:

  • Eliminate stigma around asking for help

  • Streamline access so families don’t need to navigate complex scholarship applications

  • Empower youth to join teams, explore interests, and be a part of their community

When we invest in our kids’ participation, we’re investing in healthier, happier, and more connected communities. In a region where the cost of living keeps rising, The KEY Collective ensures that opportunity doesn’t become a luxury—because every kid deserves to participate, belong, and thrive.
